I noticed security screeners on the jetway checking everyone's bags prior to boarding. One guy had a water bottle and they made him throw it away. So, although you can now carry liquids on board in the US (if purchased post security), you cannot do so in Japan. Just an fyi for anyone traveling a US carrier in Japan.
