I usually fly WBC on klm to the US, but on a recent flight I was booked in Y. tried to upgrade with my miles, but no luck...non-upgradeable fare. preparing for the worst, I boarded the AMS-LAX flight. made a last minute seat change with OLCI, and to my suprise the seat next to me stayed empty on a pretty full flight. before take off, purser came up to me and welcomed my by name. FA made sure my drink was topped up at all times. on the return from LA, seat next to me empty again. FA adressed me by name and offered me both meal options when I was a bit hesitant to go for pasta or chicken. plenty of drinks offered again during the flight. I chatted to the FA for a bit and mentioned the empty seats on both flights and the 'personal' touch. she assured me they were aware of my platinum status and would try to accomodate me whenever possible. got another AMS-LAX-AMS in two weeks, this time WBC again.
must admit, this was a welcome surprise after some dismal Y intra-europe travel on KLM.
