Well, my partner and I were in Cairns - Port Douglas two years ago. We initially reserved with Turtle Cove. But I thought that they were rather expensive for what you got, particularly since you could get a four star deluxe place in beautiful Port Douglas for the same amount.

We chose Part Douglas, but stopped in at Turtle Cove. It was nice enough, and I certainly would not have minded staying there at all. But it is overpriced. You can certainly do a LOT better going through one of the discount services for a regular hotel.

Which brings me to a pet peeve. I love to patronize gay establishments, and I remember when they were good value. The problem is now that they charge a large premium for being gay. I can typically get a much better deal if I go elsewhere, so I do. I don't know how they get away with it, particularly when the "regular" hotels are so welcoming. Another example of this is that I regularly go to Philadelphia. I can stay at a four star deluxe hotel for what it would cost me to stay in a nondescript room right over a loud gay bar in a less than average boarding house set-up.

But if they can get away with it - more power to them. They just won't get my money.
