There's a lot of information about transportation at Iceland Transport

Personally I loved driving in Iceland, as long as you get a 4WD car - there are few good roads and a lot of driving involves crossing lava fields

There are some spectacular waterfalls and glaciers but if you don't have a car then you'll probably have to take a tour. Don't forget to try the shark - yum yum
