i only rent 2 to 3 times a year for 1 week at a time. One of those may be a prestige. Well that's one way. I was told I get gold membership free for one year because of the prestige rental.
I also tend to get Neverlost with non-prestige rentals.
I think I got a random e-mail one day from Hertz saying they would comp Gold (maybe from e-rewards???). It wasn't contingent upon me renting any number of cars. That said, I typically rent a car every 3 weeks on average.
