I'm sorry about your loss, but I have to ask the question, why on earth did you willingly pack a US$350 camera and cash equivalents of $200 in your checked bag?

Cameras are sensitive pieces of equipment. Theft issues aside, weren't you concerned that it would have been smashed to bits by the bag handlers??
