Well, I think this is a good move by US and, in addition, is relevant to BA. Anything affecting the dynamics of the transatlantic market has to be relevant to an airline with such a lot invested in Europe-US routes.

BA has for many years benefited enormously (in some ways) from the overcapacity in the US airline industry - too many large legacy carriers with high cost bases and unwieldy route networks. The sector has been screaming out for consolidation and this is a welcome start IMHO after the US-America West merger.

One less transatlantic carrier won't hurt BA's yields, certainly in the short term. In the long term, though, reducing the number of US carriers may leave the survivors with more profits and hence more scope to invest in premium products.
