Sounds like you are on either the "no fly list" or "the watchlist" -- not sure why it's only UA, but there is no telling. It's likely that someone with your name or a similar name is on one of these two lists.
For your next United trip, use your middle initial on the ticket if you are not already doing so. See if that makes a difference. Also contact the TSA again and demand you be sent the paperwork for you to get cleared.
In the meantime, contact both of your US Senators and your House Rep by phone and mail at their Washington DC office. When you call, specifically ask who the senior staff member is that deals with TSA issues. Get ahold of that individual, talk to them, and make your feelings known - also address your written correspondence to this person.
Every time you have a problem checking in make a complaint to your elected officials and keep on them until it is rectified. They might mention "Secure Flight" as a way of "them" correcting the problem - but I suggest you familiarise yourself with it first. See:
