Well I ran some experiments for you, and got various different results. Called about the various results. Some transactions ran over the Visa network and incurred a fee, some ran over the ATM network and did not incur a fee. As you probably know, bank ATM's do not charge usage fees in most of Europe. So get a NON-Visa ATM card and you will not incur a fee at HSBC ATM's but HSBC US does add a fee to any transactions at a non-HSBC anywhere.
