That is quite steep! Imagine you're on a flight FRA - LAX (11hrs.) with your pricing structure that would make $440. - $1100. per roundtrip and person!!! Your expense account and controlling guys will be happy! I would not use this service if it would be that expensive. Current offerings for wireless data services range from $19.99 to $99. per months (including 5 - 200 MB). I know that this is not fully comparable but that's the price people are willing to pay to be able to log on in Airports, Starbucks,.....

Hello! I am sorry but this is not true - at least not here in the US. Lots of people fly economy also on business trips and actually work on flights. Don't know if you heard about it but most companies are cutting down and that does include travel related expenses.
btw. I've hardly ever seen anyone using the sky-phone! The In-flight phone is a perfect example for an extremly bad business model. I doubt that they've ever made any money on it!

If that doesnt suit your bottom line, here is the secret to make in-flight internet a successful profit center:

Offer in all classes, collect a traffic fee like EUR 10 per megabyte, credit 1000 miles for every megabyte downloaded, sit back and watch the guys on company expenses downloading mp3-files from take-off till landing.

You see it isn't the case that everybody is just burning company money. And even if so if the companies really don't care about their expenses I would seriously question their management!

You have to think in different terms. Once this service is installed and the infrastructure is in place you want to make sure that it is used and generates some revenue. You won't make any real money on these few people in F and C. From what I've read in this forum LH is actually quite smart here and is setting up a wireless LAN! In this way everybody can connect to it.

Lately I've seen lots of people using their Blackberry's while in flight to send and receive e-mail so there is this 'need'. If LH offers an inexpensive way to access the Internet it would probably 'fly'!

Just my two cents.
Happy Thanksgiving!
