Thanks for all of the replies!
To address a few issues - I see how it may have looked like I was looking for trouble, but this was not my intention at all. I wanted to play by the rules, and my outbound experience made me worried that I'd have problems coming back, so I was prepared.
I also learned that tiny toiletries last longer than I thought. My .87 oz toothpaste lasted the weekend, although I didn't get to brush after lunch, and also I didn't eat anything with garlic. With garlic I probably would have needed another .87 oz! I think someone should put up a website about how much toiletries the average person uses up. With all the super size and family size, I'd say most of us have no idea how long it takes to use 1 oz of deodorant! But I digress. Having said all that, I'm obsessive compulsive about my contact lenses. Even on a 3 night trip, I bring 4 extra pairs of disposable lenses, just in case. While a 2 oz bottle of solution may have lasted the weekend, my biggest fear is being stuck on the plane or in an airport with irritated eyes and having to go thru ounces and ounces of the stuff in order to see.
I probably won't be posting that much, as I'm not as frequent a flyer as many of you. I am flying intl next week with hopefully no issues (I must check a bag, so I won't have as many liquids in carryon). But I'll continue to check in from time to time. Lurking here was really helpful as I was prepared about what I might encounter. At the airports I saw only one other person with a baggie, everyone else looked bewildered. So knowledge is power... and perhaps a bit dangerous too
