With the coupons that start with 9 I find alot of differences between locations. Some don't even ask for them, some want them - but will be ok if you don't have them to give, and (as was the case at OKC today when I returned a rental) at least one wasn't going to give me the discount unless i gave them the printout (which fortunately I did have a copy of buried in my bag). Also, OKC actually wrote my contract number on the printout, so this must be a regular practice there!
FYI, the contract # on the coupon is (or was, as of a year and a half ago) an enforced mandate from corporate HQ. The idea being that if a high dollar coupon was lost/dropped, it wouldn't be able to be used again. I have seen quite a few (usually gold members) people attempt to tell the IRR that they didn't need a coupon/cert for the free week they just took. Many times, they had the cert ready to hand over and knew where it was, but were hoping to get away with abusing the system. As for a 9-cert, the only situation I experienced (SLC) was that they didn't require us to collect ANY 9's.
