LH Staff get unlimited space available (R2) tickets at a so called ZED fare (Zonal Employee Discount.) This works out at 9 Various zones depending on distance, starts at $10 (FCU) for internal, goes to about $90 for longest sector. Tickets are charged point to point e.g. LHR-FRA-YVR is charged at ZED fare LHR-FRA plus ZED Fare FRA-YVR. Sounds nice but I have known people stuck trying to get on a flight for several days!!.
LH employess can also book a seat at a much higher Zed Fare, in F,C or Y Class but obviously if the flight is overbooked they are the first off and NO DBC (or Miles!!). In many cases it is cheaper to buy a restricted Normal Y fare than a confirmed Zed (but ZED fares do not have any restrictions).
Staff are entitled to 2 Confirmed flights after 6 years service upto 10 years service (i.e. 2 flights in 4 years) at the stand-by rate and thereafter one a year. Basically booked in Y but can be listed for F or C Class. If you are offloaded on one of these flights you are eligible for DBC.
All in all not a bad deal (if you work in an area multiple flights) but it can get a bit tight when waiting space available for a one flight a day.
Staff normaly can fly at same space available rates on Star Aliance Carriers and other Airlines on which a mutual ID agreement has been made.
Duty travel is confirmed in Business Class but obviously downgrades are the norm if flight overbooked in C.
Hope the above is of interest.
