Employee deals

Hi,

a friend of mine is a LH employee, and he recently told me about the deals they get for leisure travel.

Essentially, they can travel in any class of service (F/C/Y) for 10% of a regular fare. However, in Germany, they have to pay (income) taxes on the difference to the lowest *published* fare. Therefore, my friend mostly travels in C, and essentially gets a C ticket for the price of Y, and doesn't have to pay any income taxes.

However, those tickets are all standby, and even if someone were to use miles to upgrade in the last second before boarding, his seat might be gone.

Furthermore, LH employees (except for executives I'd imagine) MAY NOT use LH lounges, even if travelling in F/C. Instead of "SEN" or "FTL", their boarding pass says "SS7" or something like that, which indicates that they are employees and not eligible to use lounges.

Of course, those reduced fares do not accrue any M&M miles, so LH employees usually have no M&M status at all.

I just thought this was interesting (and I didn't know this before), so I thought I would share it with you.

Perhaps some LH employee reading this board can add some more details
