I just booked a vacation on Orbitz from NYC(Newark) to OGG (Maui) end of Dec. The flights look like this:
Leaving: NYC->San Francisco -> Mauri
Returning: Maui-> Big Island -> chicago -> NYC.

Since we would be island hopping and end up on Big Island on the return day I wonder if it is possible on the return flight skip the portion from Maui -> Big Island and boad on Big Island? Orbiz said I need to talk to United and United says there is a chance that they would cancel the whole return flight. They said the best is to pay 150$ per ticket and rebook the return flight.

I am sure someone else has situations like this before. Any experiences with united and what are my chances?
