Another way to handle this is let this Mr. XYZ take care of it.

Next time you make a reservation and find that it's been changed, just book another hotel in that city and stay there. When Mr. XYZ fails to show up (and they have his credit card information), wouldn't he be charged a night? I would imagine that he wouldn't be pleased. They can't fault you either because the reservation is not under your name! If you want, do this several times for fun. I bet this problem goes away very quickly.
