After staying at the Park Plaza for a couple of nights this week, I wanted to add to my earlier review by advising not to stay there if there is any risk you'll have to modify your reservation
I had booked it for 4 nights and got a rate of USD299. I then managed to arrange some customer meetings in other parts of India so I wanted to cancel the last 2 nights of the stay. I tried doing this in the week before leaving for India but my travel agent here in Bangkok told me that they couldn't cut short the reservation through their system; when they tried to change it, the rate went up (to as much as USD600 per night).
When I checked in late on Monday evening, I told them that I'd be checking out after 2 nights, not 4 and they informed me about their Early Departure Penalty - if you want to amend the reservation and don't inform them more than
48 hrs before the reservation starts, they charge a 1 night penalty. They claim this was in their standard booking information but it definitely wasn't in the info that I got from my travel agent. I took it to the Duty Manager who took it to the General Manager who refused to back down. The end result was that I paid 3 nights for staying 2 nights and I won't be using Park Plaza again.
I have only had to change hotel reservations in India a few times but I've never seen this type of Early Departure Penalty. Is it common or is it just because the supply of hotels in Gurgaon is so limited?
I'll also be taking this up with my travel agent to see why they didn't warn me about this earlier.
