Sort of the point - the third airline - whether it was NW, AA or CO has never been able to make it in the US-Australia market. AC and CP before them have been in an out as has HA and I think NZ discontinued their LAX-SYD?
Also, as most of the business travel is ex-Australia there isnt probably the same balance as China and other high-growth markets. With each long haul widebody costing $150 million + and a limited supply, Im sure starting a fare war with QF isnt top of the list for anybody in the US-Australia market.
I would say if the market had even the most marginal opportunity DL would started flying there (joke)
