As indicated in other posts Quantas has a huge investments in the 747s it runs between LAX and Sydney in addition to several flights a week to JFK. If AA began to fly that route it would surely piss off a One World Partner. There may also be agreements within the One World Alliance to keep AA off this route.

AA is looking at other under served routes to China and India where they have no code share partner. I could not imagine AA abandoning their hopes to increase China and India flights and causing war with Quantas. And you will never see AA acquiring very large aircrafts such as 747s and the A380 (if it ever gets here).
