it seemed to be about the aircraft with United, when they were on the verge of ditching 747's in bankruptcy.
ORD-DEL and LAX-SYD are practically identical great circle lengths, so perhaps the pacific winds are rather less favorable or more deviation from the shortest possible path would be needed.
or perhaps 4x a week would just not be a viable service option.
