You may think that you have coverage, but in realty do not or it is very limited. The issue of medical evacuation is a huge one as such is extremely expensive, upwards of $10,000 USD.

After a male friend broke a hip on a tour off a cruise ship we found out how expensive and difficult that situation can be. The cruise ship was no help at all and even sailed away before the couple could get their possessions including passports off the ship. Getting organized, being reunited with their passports and possessions, getting flights and ultimately getting home again was expensive, frustrating and miserable.

Verify what coverage you do have.
