The Oasis effect?
I have just arrived back into Heathrow from Hong Kong on BA28 (the 01:10 departure). The flight was full in F and J. But, in W, where I was sitting, there were two of us (!), with 36 seats between us. In Y the load was less than 50%.
Even the crew seemed shocked by this - the only time I have seen a HKG-LHR flight so empty was at Chinese New Year. Usually it is full to bursting.
However, leaving within 20 mins of my flight was an Oasis flight to Gatwick, which looked pretty full. So my question is, are we starting to see the impact of the additional capacity on this route, and in particular are passengers would normally fly WTP now transferring to J in Oasis? The prices are equivalent I think. Presumably J passengers on corporate deals aren't likely to migrate, and F passengers won't move, but maybe WTP passengers will.
If so, it is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out.
As an extra shock, when I got to the FCC there was no queue, and the staff manning four (!) scanners were standing around looking bored. I was in the T1 domestic terraces within 15 mins of arriving at the gate.
Quite bizarre!
