I totally agree. At the end of a long day, wanting nothing more than to get to my hotel and sleep finally, the last thing I want to be doing is milling around in a Hertz facility for 30 or more minutes while they figure out how to do something really complicated -- rent cars to people who reserved them long in advance. Upgrades are nice, I always enjoy them, but given a choice, I wouldn't wait around an hour for an upgrade if I could hit the road immediately in my reserved car type.

Sometimes with hotel upgrades, if it is not late at night, I am willing to trade off some lobby time for a nice suite, but rarely would that be the case with a rental car. Okay, maybe a Rolls Corniche convertible might be worth an hour wait, but that isn't ever going to happen.
