As for me, I have, and still have part of the award ticket left, an award ticket to CMB from BOS which definately exceeds the MPM that the agent told you on EWR-CMB. My routing was via the pacific and was like this (a F award):

BOS-ORD-LAX-NRT-SIN-CMB (destination)-SIN-NRT-ICN (stopover)-NRT-ORD-BOS.

This was about 26K miles RT and 13K miles oneway. I think the agent got it wrong with MPM. I would say try calling again later. Also, if I remember correctly, if you don't "stopover" in Europe, I believe the mileage redemption rate is same as going via the pacific. But this is something of a irregularity and depends on the type of agent you get. Good luck
