Not that I expect you to have read it, but I have previously posted on the FT KLM Forum similar experiences with ex-UK KLM fares purchased on the NorthWest Airlines web-site. Identical itinerary, 25-30% saving at www.nwa.com. You need a US or Canada credit card address for it to work though.
