Request: Mod thread "clean up"

Hello.

Occasionally I notice a post (or a few posts) that really don't belong in a thread. Example - post #24 on this thread

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...7&page=2&pp=15

This is an excellent thread with lots of detailed information about mileage runs. Post 24 may have been well-intentioned, but it's not remotely relevant or helpful to the thread. And it's over a year old. And while VPescado was kind enough to steer the person to another board, the outcome is that there are now 2 "off-topic" posts.

I know it may not seem like a big deal to read an extraneous post or two or three every now and then. But these extraneous posts are the equivalent of email spam in my inbox -- (a) they distract (b) they end up sucking up a fair amount of time overall, even if it's only "a little bit here and a little bit there."

As FT gets broader recognition, the number of extraneous and one-time posts seems to increase. This makes it more time consuming for those of us who want to learn from FT.

May I request:
If a moderator sees a post like post #24, can they just delete it? They could even send a PM to the poster telling them how to use FT better in the future. But please, this page has probably gotten thousands of views, and it's a huge waste of our collective time to read off-topic posts. (Ironically, the poster only has 2 posts, which means s/he's wasting a lot of FTers time, but probably not much of her/her own.) Is there a way for the Mods to act as "spam editors" -- either on their own or when somebody reports a post?

Thank you.
