Exactly. Intra-Europe LH awards are wide-open per ANA and Aeroplan's award searching tools. It is United restricting these awards, not LH. And thanks for confirmign this issue independently.
This may well be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me. With my current location and travel patterns AA is a much more meaningful choice now, though it sucks giving up all the 1K benefits and start from scratch in another program.
To the OP: what about trading in CC to get a SkyTeam award?
