I think it would be very difficult to get a handle on average turnaround times for an airline just from delays. Or am I misunderstanding something?

This is interesting, I have read a number of reports about airlines that mention improving turnaround times or compare the turnaround times of airline A to airline B. But, I have no idea where these statistics come from.
