With Malev joining that will give you some additional options. IB provides a nice alternative (especially with the new J class), as noted above.

AY is good for northern/eastern destinations, but the double-ing back can be annoying for Italy, Spain, etc.

SN Brussels is nice too for connections if you can take AA to BRU and then go from there.
