I've been told this repeatedly. They supposedly monitor the flights, and try to clear as many eVIPs as possible.
My pet peeve is that if you're traveling in a party of two, by the time the eVIP finally clears there won't be any two seats together. I wish there were some way an eVIP could reserve your seat choice even before it clears. I'm, not trying to make AA promise me an upgrade which is simply not available. But it would sure be nice if a party of two EXPs, who are loyal to AA each and every week, could get two seats together for their 12-hour flight.
