If your actions will be defined as "sucking up", then it would probably be done for the wrong reasons. If one has to define boundaries for generosity then, again, it is being done for the wrong reasons.
I know that I like it when people suprise me with a nice gesture, but I appreciate it even more when it has been spontaneous and for the right reasons.
