I gave up and just make reservations under my husband's name - the hotel desk has never cared who checks in. Sharing points is nice. The rest of their system needs work.
I have had exactly the same experience and it's been extremely frustrating - hey guys, would you like every reservation/hotel bill showing up in your wife's name only? It's insane that they cannot fix a simple programming issue - simply allow a pulldown menu with both names on their site. I have managed a workaround if we are not traveling together - I simply don't book on the HH site. I go to the hotel's personal website and book in my name, credit card info, preferences, etc. Then I will either add the HH number in the comments box or via a phone call. So far, it's worked reasonably well since it seems to get in their local in-house systems correctly.
