Angry Don't Use Ual Low Fare Guarantee

If you find a lower fare elsewhere, buy it.

I purchased an international ticket on Sept 27 on UAL.com for travel on Nov 3. I submitted a claim for the gurantee the same day. The UAL website states that I would get a response in a business day. One day turn around would give me the option to cancel the UAL ticket and buy the ticket on the other website. UAL emailed and asked for more information on Oct 2. I fax the information on that date. By Oct 2 the other website's fare had changed. On Oct 17, I emailed UAL for the status of the claim. No response. On Oct 23 I called UAL and they had me fax the information again. No reponse. On Oct 31 I called again. They had me fax the information again. On Oct 31 they approved the claim and gave me a discount certificate. However, the certificate was not a dollar off certificate. It was restricted to domestic travel and "green star" flights. Also discount was off of certain fares not the lowest fare in the market. My initial test showed a $10 saving on a $120 certificate.

I did not ask, but based on the the speaker's accent I think this was handled in a call center overseas. India?

I will follow up with customer relations.

PS. I am a 1k flyer.
