Are you sure you're not confusing EQM/EQP with regular redeemable miles? I have no personal experience with HA, and you could be right, but I'd be very surprised. First, HA flights earn no points (EQP) at all unless they're on an AA code. Second, I can't believe that AA's computers are programmed to look out specifically for these HA code shares and award them fewer points than other flights as this would be a major departure from how AA handles code shares.
