Why don't you just check it to LAX and not pick it up until you get back? They probably do the same. You should have enough time to go through security once you get back if you truly have a few hours on the return between LAX and SEA.
This would work fine for me: the stuff in the bag has no significant value. Does anyone know if LAX would have a problem with holding the bag at baggage claim so long? What happens after a bag isn't picked up for a "significant" period of time?
