I'd highly recommend driving the old Route 66 from one town west of Williams (where you'll come back to from the south rim) to Laughlin. If you don't want to drive the whole thing, the most spectacular scenery is the section from Kingman (where old 66 again meets up with I-40) to Laughlin.
