With regard to the first portion, that is not correct. AA has cracked down on repeat challenges, so that a person who completes a challenge may not do so in the subsequent year. This also affects persons who do a Gold Challenge one year and then try and do a PLT challenge in the next year - this is no longer allowed.
Simultaneuous challenges are completely irrelevant to that discussion, as AA doesn't disallow the repetition of a challenge if you didn't complete the first one. Since the second challenge would be enrolled before the first one is completed, the system isn't going to disallow it.
2- My suggestion to the OP was that he consider going for the challenge next year if he is going to flying a lot. OP has until end of year to get remaining miles, at his own expense. What good is that going to do for limited flying next year, if there is a lot of flying for business, let his company pay for the status.
That certainly isn't how it reads:
If you are going to fly a lot next year, then perhaps you should do it on a challenge the first few flights, maybe even 1, then go for plt challenge after that.
The implication, in my opinion, is that you told the OP to do a challenge this year, and then do another one after that. Not only is this not allowed, but it makes no sense, given the situation.
