I have gotten through security checks without a BP. This happened to me when I was connecting from a domestic LH flight to an international UA flight in FRA and LH was not able to print my BP, I just passed security by telling them that I need to check in at the gate, they did not even look at me twice and yes it is no problem whatsoever getting the BP from a GA
