If you just received these, they're good until the end of Feb 2008. I bet, if you ask around, you'll find a relative, coworker, or friend that has international travel planned that could make use of them. Alternatively (and I hear a gasp from Spiff as I type), you can use them for domestic flights.
The last point isn't that absurd. I was waitlisted for a BOS-SJC upgrade this past spring. The long ORD-SJC leg had one empty seat a couple of hours before departure, I wasn't first in line, it didn't look good, but the agent said I could jump ahead of all the other EXPs waiting for free upgrades if I was willing to burn a VIP or miles. I said "VIP" and the upgrade was confirmed on the spot. I never felt it was wasted.
