Damian ask exactly the same question on 06-07-2002 02:33 PM at www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum32/HTML/001574.html This was my answer:

Unfortunately, I am one of the less experienced persons to answer your question, but the ability to search at the FlyerTalk forums is one of the most powerful tools that is offered. I thought, that someone may have already asked and answered the "best seat" question. I searched for you to find it and here are the answers:

Skystar (Justin): A340-300: row 20 (2-3-2, instead of the standard 2-4-2, you get a bit more legroom. However, to me the advantage the first row has over the exit row (Row 30) is that the first cabin is a bit more private and less noisy.) A340-200: row 23 (only about 5 rows of Y in that part of the cabin, so it feels somewhat more private than the large section in the back).

Peter42: 1. Exit, 2. Bulkhead, 3. The first window row in the back with 2 seats only (you have some extra legroom on the sides, as the row in front of you has 3 seats and yours only two). His third choice was on a Boeing 747-400.

djohannw (Dirk): The best seats there are the exit-rows on the plane. Other than that, I'd try to get a seat in the frontmost available part of the cabin, but that's personal preference only.

In anticipating the next question (eg. What is the earliest time in the day I can book these seats?), curt and Peter 42 confirmed, that exit row seats can only be assigned during the check in process, this includes day-before-check in, phone check in, web check in and WAP-check in. Flight must show FLIGHT IN CKI in the LH system.
