I agree completely. None of my belts have ever set off the detectors. Now, if you're wearing something with a giant rodeo buckle, then perhaps...

Cell phone and car keys go in my laptop bag. Loose change goes in a coat pocket.

I do put shoes with laces in bins because I imagine the laces could get sucked into the rollers and jam up the whole works (let alone destroying the shoe).

This board must be frequented by a lot of immunosuppressed people if you're all worried about contamination from shoes on a belt. Do you go around cleaning door knobs, elevator buttons, taxi-cabs, money, etc?
