To further clarify, there are two regular 3.5 mm plugs plus one 2.5 mm plug. The latter is for the active noise-cancelling.

I'm not sure why you would want to plug these into your iPod, but to answer your question, you're gonna be worse off if you use them since 1) you won't get any noise-cancelling and 2) you're only gonna get sound in one ear.
