When I asked how did I go from having a reservation this morning to next year, the agent just looked at me with deer in a headlight eyes, and asked if I want the volvo. Manager was basiclly worthless and could not give me an answer of how this happened. I was also hosed because my co worker showed up telling me that all other places were out of cars.

I have rented from the Hertz at Columbus and never again!

The Volvo was nice.
Either you had a valid reservation for the day in question or you may have made a mistake. Check your email confirmation and if you are in fact correct contact hertz customer service and explain what happened. I would ask for the difference in price between what you paid and what you reserved to be refunded. While I too would be annoyed if there was a mistake made I do not think this story ranks very high on the "worst rental ever" scale.
