Not quite a closed airport story but along the same vein. We got off the plane late one night in SLC from an ATL flight where we told the terminal was closed and we were told the leave, we could not even go down stairs to get our luggage. When we went out through another terminal I tired to find out what we needed to do to get our luggage. Upon reflection asking someone with an M16 was probably not the right person.

The rest of the story we walked outside of Terminal 1 down the sidewalk to Terminal 2 back in, got our luggage and left. Why the Terminal 2 passenger area was closed but not the bagage area I have no idea. It was during the 2002 Olympic stupidity though which explains most it.
