I don't think I'd characterize the response you got as lying so much as you were undoubtedly talking to the Indian Call Center where many of the CSRs don't know their butt from their elbow. Try another call.

Will I have any trouble given I am on an Air Canada codeshare (United operated)? The last call into United was done by my travel agent who was just as clueless as the UA call center :-)
