Perhaps it was because all of my flights are booked in 'A' but still. If they changed the schedule, you should not have to pay.
I've had no trouble getting rebooked on other flights when the schedule changes, either. And I'm usually in U class, or whatever is the cheapest.
The only time I run into trouble is if I have a codeshare leg that changes, because they can't book me into another fare bucket on THAT airline, and can't force a seat into that fare bucket. For example, if there's a seat available in full-fare coach on Delta and I have a U fare, but there's no U left on that flight, they'll force that full-fare into a U for me, but they can't do that for an Aeromexico flight. They can, (and have, at my request) however, cut me out of the codeshare flight and put me on DL all the way.
