I think QF officially prohibit using the footrest as a seating area, though the FAs might be polite about it. It is not like BA (actually the footrest is much better than the BA design, though that should change when BA finally refits their F cabin).
I don't think any of the QF SYD-LAX flights start with breakfast, but even if they did you would call the QF F breakfast either brunch or lunch. It is pretty substantial and tends to have things like egg frittatta which are more lunch than breakfast. I would say there is no difference in catering out of the same city, all flights are the same (and big differences in catering out of different cities, with some of the F catering being atrocious!). Unfortunately LAX is one of the below-average ones (but by no means the worst).
