Of course the Chinese are merely "enriching" the atmosphere (or pretending they are, to calm pax), but as interesting an adventure as it might be, my personal feeling about a Chinese-government showpiece extreme-engineering-challenge railroad makes me just as disinclined to ride that thing as to book Aeroflot for my next transatlantic flight.

Actually, reading the Wikipedia article caused me to conclude that Lhasa would have been an interesting stop 15 or 20 years ago. I still have Lukla and Namche to check off, and with Nepal seemingly cooling off politically I'll just see if I can make that happen.
