Just check out the rooms separately and make sure they are booked at rate that offers bonus bucks. Yes, he can give you his bonus bucks certificate as well. Usage is not personal and if you loose it anyone can use them.

I had great luck at DC area hotel when the guy next to me heard me asking about mine and he said to the clerk to give me his as well as he "was not allowed to earn gifts in relation to his payment"
