The chance that somebody browses the WAS forum for this is probably nada, but very high for somebody browsing the United forum.
Actually, the Washington forum gets quite a few queries about IAD and responses seem pretty fast, although perhaps not quite so fast as they would be in the United Forum for a United A to C transfer.
In any case, it seems that both you and the financial Scot have answered the question adequately. Now, it will be helpful for anyone else who needs the information who is not a United flier.
